Laurel always goes all-out during the Fourth of July, and this year will be no exception. The Laurel Volunteer Fire Department put on the largest fireworks display (historically) in the state, complete with a laser light and music show.
The Fourth is a fun-filled celebration in Laurel. Activities begin the night before on July 3rd with the Jaycee-sponsored street dance at 8:00 pm. A block is closed off on Second Avenue and First Street. Beer and wine coolers are sold while a live band plays.
The next morning, the Jaycees sponsor a pancake breakfast at 6:00 am in Fireman's Park ( Main St. and 1st Avenue). The Laurel Chamber of Commerce sponsors an 8-mile run, 4-mile run, 2-mile run, a 2-mile and 4 mile walk called the Chief Joseph Run that begins at 7:00 am and starts at Thompson Park ( 1st Avenue and 7th Street). A kiddie parade is next at 10:00 am and runs from First Citizens Bank to Yellowstone Banks.
The Chamber of Commerce Grand Parade begins at 11:00 am and runs from the Caboose Saloon ( 7th Avenue and Main Street) and loops around to finish at the new Laurel Middle School. Bands, Shrine units, floats, antique cars, horses, class reunions, baton twirlers, color guards, military units, and many more entries make up this exciting parade. After the parade, activities begin at Thompson Park ( 1st Avenue and 6th Street) and run through the evening. Prior to the Fireworks is a tribute to our soldiers. Candles are sold by the “Home Town Troops” organization and about 10,000 people light their candles during the National Anthem. It is an awesome display of patriotism! The fireworks celebration lights up the sky at dusk with a dazzling display.
Craft and Food Fair will be held at the old middle school gym, ( 400 Montana Ave.) both inside and out on July 4 th and 5 th. To participate in this event, please download an application. Or email the Chamber at laurelchamber@rbbmt.org
